High-pass and Low-pass Filters in Studio One

Before I switched to Studio One, I used Reason. And in Reason the mixer console is this emulation of an SSL desk with a lot of bells and whistles built in. …

The Cult of Headcount

I have no idea how overstaffed Twitter was and how understaffed it is now, and I definitely can’t relate to the methods the new owner used to address the staffing “issue”. But this whole situation reminded me of my observations while trying to raise money for AdDuplex almost 10 years…

Render Arpeggios in Studio One

Note FX (Arpeggiator, Repeater, etc.) are powerful tools to modify the playback of instrument parts in Studio One on-the-fly. But what if you want to go one step beyond that and customize the result? At first glance it may look like you are out of luck. Luckily, that’s not true and here’s a short video on how to render those arpeggios and modify them to your heart’s content: Subscribe to my YouTube channel so you don’t miss future tips!

Replacing ear pads on Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones

The faux leather on my Audio-Technica M50x headphones started cracking a few months ago and eventually small pieces of it started peeling off. I’d end up walking around with some black crap on my ears and that was more annoying than the aesthetics of the headphones themselves. A week ago, I finally pulled the plug and ordered some replacement pads. I decided to film the process of replacing the pads in case anyone wants to see how it’s done by a fellow unskilled person ;) Here it is. Enjoy:

Studio One 6 Review

Studio One 6 was released a couple of days ago. I’ve made an “expectations” Bingo card a few days before the announcement and now that I played with version 6, I can conclude that a few things from my card have materialized but most of them didn’t. At the same time there were several unexpected yet useful additions. Here’s my video review of Studio One 6 consisting of 6 improvements I really like and also my top 6 missed opportunities in this release:

Comparing Spotify Playlists in Playlist Sorter

My “tiny goody” Playlist Sorter for Spotify just got an update letting you compare two playlists. Go into the details of one playlist, click on the “Compare to…” button and then select a second playlist and you will get a list of common tracks between the two (if any). Then you can remove the duplicates from one of the playlists. As most things with Playlist Sorter, the feature was driven by my personal need. But hopefully you will find it useful as well. If you do, please consider buying me a coffee. Thanks❣️

Quick Tip: Improve Your Fake Strumming in Studio One

Studio One 5.5 added a feature that lets you convert “straight” chords into strums easily. Just select your chord and start dragging a note in it and then (and it’s important to start dragging first which is awkward, but you get used to it) press ctrl+alt (Windows) or cmd+option (Mac). And that’s a great workflow improvement. But apparently, it doesn’t take how real guitarist strum into account. This short tip shows you how to take this feature to its natural conclusion:
